Petition to Amazon

For the last week or so, there has been a huge discussion on Dear Author about how a certain author is bullying reviewers and manipulating the reviews at Amazon so that only her 5 star reviews are shown. Anything less than 5 stars she gets Amazon to remove. Because I feel we have to take a stand and let this author know we won’t stand for her sneaky and shameful ways, I’m sharing a petition Jane at Dear Author started. We’re asking Amazon to change the way they run the site when it comes to reviewing books. Please go read it and sign it. This author has got to be stopped. If she feels the need to track down a reviewer’s personal info because of a 3 star review and imply threats to the reviewer, her family, even her CHILDREN, I wonder what she’ll do should she ever get a 1 star review?  Anyone remember the movie Psycho? That shower scene? Cue the theme music because that’s all I keep thinking about right now.

Yeah!!

Mom called last night and shared some awesome news. She's booked a flight to come for a visit! Yeah! I so needed this. She's going to be a busy traveler, too. She'll be here for two weeks, then the day I take her to the airport, she's flying to TN to see my oldest sister and her family for two weeks and then heads home to Florida for a week before flying off to Jerusalem for three months to see my grandparents. This means I've got less than three weeks to do some major cleaning and the office is going to be the first place I start! ;)

Little Diva funnies...

Every day when I pick her up from school she has me guess who was the helper in various class activities. For example, who was the line leader, who was the calendar helper, flag holder, etc. This was from today.

Diva: Guess who was the line leader?

Me: Was it *insert name*?

Diva: No, it was *insert name*. Guess who was the caboose?

Me: Was it *insert name*?

Diva: No, it was me...but don't tell Jeanine.

Me: Why not?

Diva: Cause she's going to say I was the butt of the line again.

A little later as we're driving home from school...

Diva: Does Jeanine have a softball game today?

Me: No, no game, just practice.

Diva: Does she have one tomorrow?

Me: Not sure, Jeanine hasn't said and I haven't checked the calendar yet.

Diva: How can you not know? You're the Mom...you're supposed to know everything!!

Wow...

Can't believe I completely missed posting in March! I kept saying "tomorrow, I'll post" and it looks like tomorrow was over a month away! Sorry about that. Lots of things happening around here.

1. My birthday was in March. March 9th I turned 34. Where has the time gone? I'm not really freaking that I'm 34, just that it seems to have flown by! I remember one of my BIL's always teased me on my birthday by asking me if I was legal yet. Guess I can no longer say "One more year to go!" ;) Hubby did say that I look the same as I did when I married him years ago. Big brownies points for that man! :)

2. I posted back in February that my MIL had a stroke. Two of my BILs flew over to be with her and take care of things. She was on the mend, her speech was impaired but she was on the mend when we got a call the morning of March 22nd telling us that she passed away in her sleep. Hubby was devastated. He's angry that he wasn't there for her but his passport had expired and things happened so quickly that I never had the chance to send it out to get a new one. The funeral was the day after she passed away so he was very quiet in the days after her passing. He's just started talking about her and grieving. I hurt for him. It hurts me to see him like this. He's talking of going to Jerusalem when summer arrives so he can go say his final goodbyes. Not sure how we'll do that but we'll figure something out.

3. The two older girls remembered their grandmother from when she visited when they were 4 and 6 and cried when they found out but the younger two never met her and always turned bashful when I'd give them the phone to talk to her so they don't really know what's going on.

4.  Basketball season finished but now we're in Softball season and that has me on the road a lot. Back and forth to practices and games. In fact, we have three games this week. One today, one tomorrow and one of Friday, that's an away game if I remember right, which means the bus won't return to school until after 10pm.

5. Reading-wise, I've been reading some great books. The days after finding out about MIL, I couldn't sleep so most nights were spent downstairs reading or cleaning the house at night while everyone else was asleep.

6. My mother is thinking of coming for a visit soon. I hope she does. I really need to see her right about now. Talking on the phone just isn't the same, you know?

I think that's it for now. I need to head out and run some errands before I get the girls from school.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about Why I haven't been blogging...

1. The girls have kept me busy with their sports! Finished Basketball season last week and immediately jumped into Softball season two days later. Whatever happened to the downtime I was hoping for in between?

2. My MIL is currently home after suffering a stroke. I cried like a baby the first time I called her and heard her struggling to talk a few words...just wanted to reach through the phone and smother her in hugs.

3. My reading mojo seems to have taken a vacation. I find that it takes me over a week to read one book when it used to take me one or two days. I know this is also in part of all the worrying I'm doing about my mother-in-law.

4. Right now I'm reading SWEET SURRENDER by Maya Banks and this is the first book in weeks that has really grabbed my attention.

5. When not reading, I've found myself playing games at Pogo. Darn place is addicting!

6. Our neighbor's cat got stuck in our crawlspace recently. Took us a while to realize where all the meowing was coming from and by the time we found it, it had been under the house for ten days. The owners didn't even seem to care...took them three days to realize their cat was missing yet they never even went looking for him. Poor kitty.

7. The cat seems to be over the trauma of being stuck since for the past two days he's been in my yard or sitting on my window sill when I leave the house.

8. My 10 year old came home with a Read-A-Thon program. Starts tomorrow and ends March 19 and she's wanting me to pay her $1.00 per page she reads...and she says she plans to read a Harry Potter book! So we're in negotiations of what I'll pay if she does because hello, I'm not paying her a dollar a page for a Harry Potter book! ;)

9. I've already called and had my sisters sponsor her too...even got my nephew to do it. Just have to call and beg my mother to do it too.

10. Been watching Big Brother 9 but hmm, I'm not really feeling it...maybe because I associate Big Brother with summer. I do enjoy watching Matt and listening to him talk with his Boston accent. I'm easy to please, it seems.

11. Hubby has kept me busy as his Go-For Gal. If I'm not taxi-ing the girls to practice or a game, I'm running errands for him.

12. Mom is planning to visit again. Not sure when just yet but I think it'll be sometime in May or June.

13. If anyone has seen my reading Mojo, could you tell it I'm looking for it? ;)

Latest addition to my iPod

On the way home from picking up the girls from school, my oldest played this song on her iPod...as soon as we got home, I came on and put the song on my iPod too. Love it!

February 04, 2008

Yes, I'm still here! :)

Wow, last time I posted it was the 22nd of January! Things have been busy here. But first...what the heck is up with my blog? Where'd all my images go? Yikes...will have to fix that. January was and always is a busy month for us. The Diva had a birthday. She's five now. Where has the time gone? Then Hubby had a birthday. He turned 44 but assures me that he still feels like he's 14. Not sure if that's a good thing, given our oldest is 17 right now. *G* Then my second daughter turned 15 a few days ago. You know what that means right? Soon I'll have 2 teen drivers in the house! She's been so busy with basketball that I haven't had the chance to take her to get her permit yet. Hopefully sometime this month since basketball season is almost over. In other news here, we got a call from hubby's niece in Jerusalem last week. MIL had what they think is a stroke and is currently in the hospital. I hate being so far away and not being there to see her. Hubby was hoping to go see her himself until we realized his passport had expired so I'm now getting that updated for him. Two of his brothers left to fly over the same day we got the call. No real news yet, she's still in the hospital and we're not sure when they'll release her. Please say a prayer or two for her for us. With everything going on with MIL, I haven't been able to concentrate on reading at all. I just have no interest, nothing is grabbing me from the TBR, even my keepers aren't doing it for me. We called to check in last night but no one was home and the hospital line was busy each time we called. Hopefully we'll be able to get through tonight and see how she's doing.

All day...

I've had this song running through my head! Sean Kingston's Take You There.

He's a pain!

I think I've mentioned here before that I'm a book-pusher. Proud Book Pusher, at that. *G* I send boxes of books to my oldest sister and youngest sister all the time. In a recent phone conversation with my oldest sister, she mentioned she's down to the last book in her box and needs me to send her another one. At the same time, my youngest sister wanted the last Erin McCarthy vampire book since she was working her way through those books. So Friday I went to the post office. My oldest sister got a huge box with about twenty books in it. I sent my youngest sister 3 books -- the new Garwood, the new Shalvis and latest McCarthy vampire book. Anyway, I text messaged her Friday as I was walking out the post office and told her the box would get there today. She called me today to tell me someone must have switched the books because when she opened it, she didn't find the 3 books I sent her, she found 3 religion books about Muslims and Islam. I was wondering how those ended up in the box because I knew what I had put in there before I taped it up. So I asked her if it looked like someone opened it up and she said no. So I couldn't understand how those books got to her because 1. I don't have those books and 2. Even if I had them, I'd keep them for myself. LOL

So we're going back and forth, trying to figure out what had happened and all I could think of was that someone must have ordered those books but somewhere in the post office both boxes got opened by mistake and then they just shoved the books in whatever box they thought they belonged in. Been known to happen...one time a reviewer got a package of car wheels instead of the review book she was supposed to receive because the envelopes were ripped in the process of shipping them.

Anyway, I'm sitting there freaking, saying that someone who had ordered those books is going to freak out when they see what they get instead and then all of a sudden her hubby starts laughing in the background.  Seems he couldn't hold it in any longer and confessed -- he had opened the box because he was the one home when the mailman knocked on the door to deliver it. Since he saw it was from me, he opened the box, switched out the books with some that they had in the living room and then taped it back up as if nothing happened -- to see what reaction he'd get from us. LOL OMG. I told him he was good -- that it worked that time but it wouldn't work again because next time I sent a box, it would be going to Mom's and sis would just have to pick it up on the weekends when she goes and stays with Mom. I also mentioned revenge and getting him back. Told him I wasn't sure when and where but it would happen because no one messes with my babies.

Book Shopping!

Went to the mall to get hubby a few birthday presents…and before we left, I made a pitstop at BAM and picked up some books for me. :)

Romance Reading Challenge --

Rc

As if the two challenges I joined for 2008 won't keep me busy, here's another one I picked to be a part of. This one is easy too, a Romance Reading Challenge. Read five romance novels from now until December 31, 2008. Surely I can do that, right? *G* Just need to decide on the books now and this challenge isn't as strict in the rules. We can change the titles of the books if we want.

TBR Challenge

Tbr

I joined a few challenges already for 2008. In addition to doing another year with eHarlequin.com 100K Challenge, I joined TBR Challenge too, where I'm to read 12 books for the whole year. Sounds easy, no? :) So here's my list and my list of alternates I chose for the TBR Challenge.

Scheme says it's BYOB Night. <G> Games might be played and prizes could be offered. Chat starts at 10:00 (EST) and link to room is here. If clicking on that doesn't work, just go to www.romrevtoday.com and click on Chat Room.

New Books! :)

Did some book shopping today at BAM. My oldest offered to buy me some books since she knows how books and I go together. She thought I'd pick 4 or 5 and when she saw my stack we had to negotiate what she'd pay for and what could wait until the next time we were at the bookstore. Needless to say, I came home with my full stack. LOL

MORNING LIGHT by Catherine Anderson (already started this one since I was in between books)
BEDLAM, BATH & BEYOND by J.D. Warren
THE STOLEN PRINCESS by Anne Gracie
CUTTING LOOSE by Tara Janzen
ENCHANTING THE LADY by Kathryne Kennedy (Love the cover!)
MARKED BY MOONLIGHT by Sharie Kohler

SUCKER BET by Erin McCarthy
